Alba.
White lacquer, in first light.
Four coats of lacquer, sanded flat between each, and nothing else. The quietest of the three, and the one that shows the hands best.
Worn
The one you can read from across the room.
White lacquer gives the hands nothing to compete with. At arm's length the dauphine hands read as two dark cuts; at a glance from a table, the double baton at twelve is enough.
On a white cuff it becomes almost architectural: a steel ring, a white plane, two lines. The black strap is the only weight.
The white
Four coats, sanded between each.
Lacquer is slow. Each coat goes on thin, cures for a day, and is sanded flat before the next, so the finished dial is four layers that read as one surface. The print is grey rather than black, so the minute track sits back and the applied indices come forward. Nothing on this dial is trying.
